More green spaces for Lucerne – For a city worth living in
Luzern is constantly growing. New apartments, streets and buildings are being built - but at the same time green spaces are becoming increasingly rare. However, parks, green spaces and natural recreational areas are crucial to the quality of life in a city. They offer space to relax, play and meet and are important retreats from hectic city life.
This initiative is committed to making Lucerne greener again and creating more public green spaces for all residents. The aim is to create new parks, upgrade existing areas and implement innovative greening concepts throughout the city.
Specifically, the initiative calls for the creation of at least three new city parks by 2028, the greening of flat roofs of public buildings, and the establishment of small pocket parks in densely built-up areas. In addition, an annual budget of 2 million francs should be made available for the maintenance and development of green spaces.
Green spaces are not just beautiful - they also fulfill important ecological functions. Trees and plants improve air quality, reduce noise, store rainwater and cool the city on hot summer days. Especially in times of climate change, they help to reduce so-called heat islands in the city.
Green spaces also play an important role in the health of the population. Studies show that people who live near parks and green spaces have less stress, exercise more and are generally happier.
This initiative aims to make Lucerne a greener, healthier and better city to live in - for current and future generations.
